Scientific and industrial collaboration with South Africa
Henk Koopmans, director of the Foundation Sensor Universe and also member of the Board of EARTH travelled South Africa together with EARTH-director Rob de Meijer. The aim of this trip was to investigate possible grounds for further scientific and industrial collaboration between institutions in both countries. Possible connections are the projects EARTH and the bid of South Africa for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA). They were present at the SKA Forum at Cape Town and had meetings with the president of the National Research Foundation and a representative of the South African Innovation Fund. Moreover they visited the headquarters of the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) at Centurion and met with the director of iThemba LABS. Moreover at the SKA Forum several representatives of Dutch organisations were met. Various appointments were made for further working out the points discussed and agreed upon.
